Resize images

Change the dimensions of one or many images. Set an exact width and height in pixels or scale by a percentage, with the aspect ratio kept automatically.

Private: works in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How to use the Resize Image tool

  1. Choose your images.
  2. Select “Pixels” or “Percentage”.
  3. Enter the new width, height or percentage. Keep “Keep proportions” on to avoid stretching.
  4. Click “Resize” and download the results.

Pixels or percentage?

Use pixels when a website or app asks for a specific size, for example 1080 × 1080 for an Instagram post or 400 × 400 for a profile picture. Enter only the width or only the height and the other side is calculated for you.

Use percentage to scale many images by the same amount, for example 50 percent to halve each side of every photo in a folder.

How “Keep proportions” works

With proportions kept, the image is scaled to fit inside the width and height you enter, so it is never stretched or squashed. Turn the option off only when you need an exact size and do not mind the picture being distorted.

Enlarging small images is possible, but no tool can add detail that is not there, so large upscales will look soft.

Common sizes

  • Full HD wallpaper: 1920 × 1080
  • Instagram square post: 1080 × 1080
  • Facebook cover: 851 × 315
  • YouTube thumbnail: 1280 × 720
  • Passport-style web upload: often 600 × 600

Privacy

Images are processed on your own device and are never uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Will resizing reduce file size?

Making an image smaller in pixels also makes the file smaller. For even smaller files, use Compress Image afterwards.

Can I resize several images to the same size?

Yes. Select them all, enter the size once and download them together as a ZIP.

Which format will I get?

By default the same format as the original. You can also choose JPG or PNG.

Does it keep transparency?

Yes, when the output format is PNG.
