How to use the Audio Cutter tool
- Choose an audio or video file.
- Drag on the waveform to select a part, or type the start and end time.
- Play the selection and adjust the handles.
- Add fades if you like, then click “Cut and save”.
Two ways to cut
- Keep the selection: save only the selected part, for example the chorus for a ringtone.
- Keep everything except the selection: remove a cough, an ad or a mistake from the middle. A tiny crossfade at the cut avoids a click.
Making a ringtone
Select up to 30 seconds (iPhone ringtones are limited to 40 seconds), add a 1 second fade in and a 2 second fade out, and save as MP3. Android accepts MP3 ringtones directly. On iPhone, ringtones must be M4R files set through GarageBand or a computer.
Precise selection
Type times as minutes:seconds, for example 1:23.5, to set the start and end exactly. Click and drag anywhere on the waveform to start a new selection, or drag the blue handles to adjust it.
Privacy
Everything runs in your browser: the audio is decoded by your browser and encoded on your device. Your files are never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Can I cut the audio of a video?
Yes. Open the MP4 or MOV file and the tool works with its soundtrack. The result is an audio file.
Does cutting reduce quality?
Saving as WAV is lossless. Saving as MP3 re-encodes the audio; at 192 kbps or more the difference is not audible.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Drag the handles with your finger, or type the times for more precision.
How long can the file be?
Hours of audio work on a computer. Very long files take a few seconds to show the waveform.
