PNG vs JPG: what is the difference?
PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it perfect for logos, icons and screenshots, but photos saved as PNG are very large. JPG uses smart compression that is ideal for photos and gradients and produces files that are often five to ten times smaller.
