Paste HTML from a web page, a CMS or an email template and get tidy Markdown for docs, README files, wikis or notes apps.

Private: works in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How to use the HTML to Markdown tool

  1. Paste HTML code.
  2. Choose the heading and bullet style.
  3. Copy the Markdown or download it as a .md file.

What is converted

Headings, paragraphs, bold and italic text, links, images, ordered and unordered lists, blockquotes, inline code and code blocks become their Markdown equivalents. Scripts and styles are dropped. Conversion uses the Turndown library.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste a whole web page?

Yes. Paste the HTML source; navigation and scripts may come along as text, so remove what you do not need.

Are tables supported?

Simple tables are converted to text. For complex tables, keeping them as HTML inside Markdown usually works better.

Which heading style should I choose?

The # style (ATX) is the most common and works everywhere. The underlined style only supports two heading levels.

Can I convert back to HTML?

Yes, with the Markdown to HTML converter.
