How to use the Add Page Numbers to PDF tool
- Choose your PDF file.
- Pick the position, for example bottom center.
- Choose the format and the starting number. Tick “Cover page” to leave the first page without a number.
- Click “Add page numbers” and download the result.
Why page numbers matter
Numbered pages make long documents easy to navigate, discuss and print. Reviewers can point to “page 14”, printed copies can be put back in order, and many universities, courts and tenders require page numbers in submitted documents.
Formats and options
- 1: just the number, the cleanest option.
- Page 1: clear for printed reports.
- Page 1 of 10: shows the total, so readers know nothing is missing.
- 1 / 10: compact version with the total.
Use “Start at” when the PDF continues another document, for example to start at 25. The “Cover page” option skips the first page and starts numbering on the second one. Numbers are placed correctly even on pages that are rotated.

Frequently asked questions
Can I start numbering from page 2?
Yes. Tick “Cover page” and the first page is left without a number.
Can I choose the font?
The numbers use Helvetica, a clean font that looks good in any document. You can change the size from 6 to 40 points.
Will the numbers cover my text?
Numbers are placed in the page margin. If your document has very narrow margins, choose a smaller font size or another position.
Does this change the original file?
No. You download a new PDF; your original stays untouched.
